How many CS students use vendor bought PCs versus custom-built PCs. How many CS students use IDEs or g++. What genres of video games students play by major. How many students use laptops for taking notes.
Very intriguing proposals. I think it would be interesting to see the use of IDEs vs g++ before and after students take a software engineering course too.
I think the laptop note-taking idea is great. You may also be able to include in there the distraction of those by games during class, facebook...
